Mr. Charanjiv Singh, Chairman, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, forwarded a memorandum to Mr. Anurag Aggarwal, Home Secretary on Wednesday for an immediate removal of vendors from Sector 17 pavement areas.

It is very urgent to clear vendors from pavements as they occupy entire pavement area and create problems in shopping from showrooms. This problem is not limited to Sector 17 only, this has become a problem of entire Chandigarh and Mohali and this is affecting the tourism of state and union territory. This place is facing this problem from a long time because of the lack of strict rules and policies. Unemployment and poverty is on their peak which causes these type of problems but if the government takes some strict steps then it can be controlled.

It is essential to recognize that maximum vendors on the pavements are also people of their city. They also contribute to city’s economy. Government or concerned authorities should separate zone for these vendors without any delay so that they do not affect the tourism and economy.

It is necessary to take some strict steps against these vendors as they are causing inconvenience to customers and cutting down the business of traders. An official should be assigned for taking care of this issue and resolve this problem.

Let’s wait for the decision of authorities, how they handle this issue.
