- Poonam Dhillon Businessperson, Actor.
- Kirron Kher Actor, Presenter.

- Shankar Dayal Sharma Politician.
The list does not end here. There are many other personalities who studied from here and made our city Chandigarh proud. Panjab University offers a variety of courses to the students. Maximum colleges in Chandigarh are affiliated with Panjab University (PU).
According to the sources, Panjab University has decided to make some changes in the fee structure for the upcoming session 2018-19. This major change is going to affect the pocket of the parents because PU is all set to hike both tuition and examination fee by 10 percent for the session starting from 2018-19.
The students who opted for the self-financing courses like BE, BDS, BA / B.com, LLB, etc will have to pay a hike of 10 percent per annum if the student is new while the current students have to pay a fee enhanced by five percent. However, in the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences, the hike has been fixed at Rs 7,500 for the new students as the 10 percent hike was much more. Sources added.
The hike has been fixed at 10 percent per annum with a minimum annual increase of Rs 1,000 for self-financing courses including both traditional and professional courses. Traditional courses include Honours school courses, MA, MCom, MEd and MPhil, while professionals include those in engineering, law and MBA.
In the examination fee, the hike has been 10 percent with a maximum rise of Rs 200. There has been a hike of 10 percent in the user-maintenance charges as well.
Changes are never acceptable and this is the universal truth. We can’t accept changes so easily. We can see that in the current scenario where students are opposing the fee hike. Jashan Kamboj, president, Panjab University Campus Students Council said that if the proposal of fee hike implemented then we will lead the protest. Even today, we have protested at the meeting too.
According to the Prof Rajesh Gill, president, Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA), the hike in fee is necessary to raise the income. But just like rationalization of fee structure, we have to rationalize the expenditure. We have to curtail a lot of wasteful expenditure. We have to see where we are forgoing our income, he added.
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
