Acidity or heartburn is a problem faced by everyone in their lives. This can be caused due to many reasons. Two main reasons for acidity are excessive production of acid by the gastric gland and another one is when acidic stomach contents travel back into the esophagus. Some of the symptoms of acidity or heartburn are bad breath, feeling of vomiting, nausea, burping, black stools, pain, etc. In addition to above two reasons listed for acidity, there are some other reasons as well. Some of such reasons are smoking or alcohol consumption, too much amount of caffeine, lying down after having a meal, non-veg meals and many more. Here we brought you some of the home remedies for acidity which are easy to implement and are effective as well. So let’s check some of the effective home remedies for acidity.

Basil

Basil leaves are a very effective remedy for acidity. These leaves have some soothing and carminative properties. Because of these properties, they help in relieving from gas, nausea and acidity. Just chew 4-7 leaves whenever you feel like acidity.

Another option of taking basil leaves is by boiling them with water. For effective results, boil 4-8 leaves of basil leaves in water and drink it. You can also add honey for making this mixture sweet. You are advised not to add milk to this mixture.

Fennel Seeds

Fennel seed is known for gastrointestinal benefits. It helps in keeping the digestive tract healthy and happy. You just have to boil 1 tablespoon of Fennel seed in a cup of water. After boiling this mixture leave it for overnight. Strain the water next morning and add 1 tablespoon of honey to give it a better taste. For better results, take this tea 3 times a day.

Caraway seed is another thing that is a very effective remedy for acidity. It is very helpful in the process of digestion. You are advised to chew the seeds of caraway after a heavy meal. Just boil 1 tablespoon of Caraway Seeds in 1.5 liters of water and simmer it for 15 minutes. Sip the warm mixture. Repeat it for 4-6 days while drinking it 2-3 times a day.

Clove is used in many of the stomach related ayurvedic medicines which help in preventing the formation of gas. You can make powder of cloves and cardamom to avoid the formation of gas and also for getting rid of bad breath. It is also used as a mouth freshener after every meal.

Banana is a very rich source of potassium which helps in regulating the acid production in the stomach. It also helps in increasing mucous production in your stomach. Overripe banana contains potassium in a large amount and hence is useful in curing acidity in the human body.

Cure Heartburn with Cold Milk

Milk is a very rich source of calcium. Calcium helps in preventing the formation of acid and it also absorbs an excessive amount of acid present in the stomach. Just simply drink a glass of cold milk to reduce the burning effect generated by acidity and acid reflux. Adding one tablespoon of ghee will be more effective and better.

Buttermilk is also an effective home remedy for acidity. You just simply take a glass full of buttermilk and add a tablespoon of coriander leaves or black pepper. Buttermilk contains lactic acid which helps in regulating acid production in the stomach.
