Famous Women Personalities of Chandigarh Who Made India Proud

In the morning I was thinking about the topic to write down an article. Meanwhile, I heard a song on the FM from the movie Neerja and immediately I have decided to write down something on the women of Chandigarh who made India proud. Women are born with the heart on their sleeves and fire in their soul. Being a woman is not an easy task. They wear so many hats in their lives and still knows how to rule the world.

Let’s have a look at the famous women personalities of Chandigarh who made India proud:

1) Neerja Bhanot 

She was the brave heart woman who laid down her life while trying to save lives of hundreds of passengers on hijack Pan Am Flight 73. She was born in Chandigarh on September 7, 1963, and she is the YOUNGEST recipient of India’s highest peacetime award for bravery, the Ashok Chakra Award. We should be thankful to Neerja for teaching us the real meaning of humanity and courage.

2) Harita Kaur Deol

She was the first woman solo pilot to fly in an Indian Air Force without any accompanies. She was born in 1972, in Chandigarh and unfortunately, she died in an air crash near Nellore, Andhra Pradesh on 25th December 1996. In small cities where women don’t allow to step out after 8 pm, she pursued her career and came out with the flying colors.

 

3) Manju Jaidka

She is a professor of English, at the Panjab University, Chandigarh, in India. She doesn’t need any introduction as her work speaks everything. She is the country’s one of the leading academician and she is also a Chairperson of the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi. In this capacity, she has made a tremendous contribution towards the promotion of literature and culture in Chandigarh. She is also a creative writer and she is famous for novels.

4) Kirron Kher

She is an amazing theater, film and television actress and a TV talk show host. She has been a Member of Parliament from Chandigarh since May 2014. She used to be a great badminton player and very few people are aware that she has played badminton with Deepika Padukone’s father Prakash Padukone at the national levels. We should be thankful to her for entertaining us with her acting skills and of course with her Punjabi accent.

5) Gul Panag

Gul Panag or Gulkirat Kaur Panag is well-known actress and model. She has won the Miss India title in 1999 and was crowned Miss beautiful smile at the same Pageant. She is not only known for the glamorous world but also for the social activities. She runs an NGO with the name Colonel Shamsher Singh Foundation, that works towards a variety of causes including gender equality, education and disaster management. She is an active AAP leader in Chandigarh.
